Hi
i was wondering how are buses are detoured when there is something going on along their route and they cant go through the affected area. And i mean basically anything, i remember a couple of years back there was a fire in the bronx on Southern Blvd and the Bx19 northbound was detoured in the following manner
Right onto Westchester
Left at Hoe
Right onto West Farms
Left onto Vyse
Left onto Home and then turn right onto Southern and continue their run.
i also saw a BX35 rerouted down Vyse and left onto Home until reaching 169th st.
So it brings up the question of how exactly are reroutes/detours picked at a moments notice. Is there a book with all possible detours already printed for the route and they just have to look or those a Bus dispatcher or supervisor in an MTA car scout out a way around the blockage and then radio it in. Because there have been times when ive witnessed a detour and have seen MTA "officers" and their vehicles along the detoured route.
