If you ever lived in New York City or visited it, you've probably heard him.
His name is Charlie Pellett. And he's most well-known for being the voice behind, "Stand clear of the closing doors, please" on the New York Subway. It's an unpaid job - his full-time gig is a radio anchor position at Bloomberg News. So how exactly did Pellett get the opportunity to commandeer one of the most well-known subway announcements on Earth? As Pellett goes on to say in a New Yorker video, in the early 1990s, some of his Bloomberg co-workers went a mission to improve the New York subway announcements, so they reached out to the and made connections. had released new cars and asked Pellett and his co-workers to record announcements. Pellett was one of a number who submitted his voice for the
