looked all over for an answer to this question and figured id try here.
does anyone know what the red patches under the number plate were for?
i weather model trains as a hobby and about a year ago began studying and collecting MTA cars that were in service during the 70s and 80s. based on the hundreds of photos i have viewed from this era, I noticed these "patches" only on the IRTs and began to appear in the mid 80s. some were green too.
any idea what they were for and what the colors signified?
any help is appreciated.
