MTA Adds Real-Time Arrival Estimates on L Line

L train riders from Canarsie, Brooklyn to 8th Avenue in Manhattan can now get real-time train arrival information on their phones and online. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) announced that the information that appears on platform countdown clocks on the l.png Line is now available via the MTA Subway Time™ iPhone and web app. And the MTA is now providing the data to app developers to include in third party apps that help with subway navigation.

Despite this addition, the SubwayTime app still lags way behind other much more useful apps, like iTrans NYC Subway, which has been my go-to app for the subway for well over five years now. Maybe it's because this isn't the MTA's forte at all, but the problems with the app still haven't been addressed since its initial release over a year ago. (Wasn't it a beta back in December 2012 anyhow? Did they simply forget about it?) I can't even access the next train info on my phone since it just keeps loading as soon as you click a line. I've done the usual delete/reinstall and power down the phone thing if you're interested, but seriously, there should be some kind of quality control for this, but I really am not surprised by this lack of oversight.
