Newark Mayor Ras Baraka said the person who died was one of the bus drivers, and that seven of the injured were in critical condition.
Chopper footage shows one bus smashed into the other, crumpling the multi-ton vehicle like an accordion and spewing glass on the ground amid mangled chunks of metal. Baraka said authorities were working to confirm reports that one of the bus drivers may have run a red light.
