The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey plans to extend the PATH train line to Newark Liberty International Airport over the next decade.
Agency officials announced plans for the $1.5 billion project on Tuesday. PATH trains now end at Newark's Penn Station.
It's part of a proposed $27.6 billion, 10-year capital plan that will go before the authority's full board on Feb. 19.
Nearly half of the money is dedicated to maintaining facilities. Officials say $1 billion will be spent on repairing damage from Sandy and preventing future damage from storms, mostly on the PATH line.
About $8 billion will go to aviation facilities, with $7.9 billion earmarked for tunnels and bridges.
