A bus driver and his two passengers escaped injury Wednesday in a crash involving two vehicles in Babylon that sent the bus into a utility pole, Suffolk County police said.
A Suffolk County Transit bus was traveling west in the right lane on Montauk Highway, west of Little East Neck Road, at about 10 a.m. when a car stopped in the left lane turned suddenly in front of it, police said.
The bus lost control, went onto the sidewalk and struck the pole, police said, with wires and a transformer landing atop the bus.
The driver and the two passengers exited the bus from the back door, with help from the Babylon Fire Department, police said. There were no injuries or tickets issued, police said.
Montauk Highway was closed both ways between Little East Neck Road and Tappan Avenue for more than an hour and then westbound only until after noon as repairs to the utility pole were made, police said.
