A Metro-North rider was critically hurt after he opened an emergency-exit door and jumped out of a moving train in Westchester County, authorities said.

A Manhattan man suffered critical injuries when he jumped from a moving Metro-North Railroad express train in Westchester County Friday afternoon, authorities said.

The 35-year-old apparently used an emergency-exit handle to open a door as the train was passing through the Harrison Station on the New Haven line at about 1:15 p.m., Metro-North spokeswoman Marjorie Anders said. He hit the platform and was taken to the Westchester Medical Center. Metropolitan Transportation Authority police were investigating.

Anders said it was unclear why the man jumped. The Daily News is withholding his name pending official notification of his kin.
