Extending Bx5 into Co-op city to take pressure of Bx23/Q50
why some buses bypass stops when they are half-full and people are waiting at stops?
I noticed that sometimes when I'm waiting for the Q13/28 and of course I tend to use bustime app. When the bus approaches it shows "next bus please" or in service but then it bypasses my stop while the bus is not even packed. Why does that happen? It frustrates me because there were plenty of room in the bus and driver bypass the stop.

Couple get married on the N train
Some lucky straphangers unexpectedly became wedding guests on Friday when Hector Irakliotis, 26, and Tatyana Sandler, 25, exchanged vows on the N train as it crossed the Manhattan Bridge from Brooklyn. They said the subway line was important to their relationship because they spent a lot of time traveling on it.

So, I'm very happy for them for getting married and all, but honestly speaking. events like this ON a subway is no different from entertainers "entertaining for change" in my opinion.
Your thoughts?
(9) Train? (13) Train? END Train!?
Crazy stuff on the and
trains yesterday. Some doofus changed the side rollsigns on the entire
train to
train, and another
train came signed up as a (13) train. At Brooklyn Bridge City Hall, a R62
train was signed up as a (12) train. On a
train, it was signed up as a (END) train going from 148 Street to South Ferry.
On a R32, a train was signed up as a
train in the first car and as a
train in the second car. Everybody was confused, and we had to wait for 15 Minutes to get on a
or
or
train that had the CORRECT rollsigns.
Why dosent the MTA lock their rollsigns?
A New Reality?
Will we see more of these soon on different lines?
You'll understand what I mean.

MetroCard Glitch Snarls Commute for Nearly 10,000 Riders
Nearly 10,000 commuters faced a rude welcome to December on Monday morning, when the MetroCards sent to them by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority proved worthless.
Commuters rushing to get to work after the extended holiday weekend could not get through the turnstiles or past the fareboxes when they tried to swipe their new MetroCards. The cards, which should have been good for 30 days’ use of the city’s subway and bus systems, turned out to be good for none because of a coding error, said Aaron Donovan, a spokesman for the authority.
Mr. Donovan said the “technical glitch” affected only those MetroCards attached to December monthly passes for riders on theLong Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad. He said that 7,100 Long Island customers and 2,800 Metro-North riders purchase MetroCards with their passes through the authority’s Mail & Ride program.
Many of those customers transfer from commuter trains to the subway at Pennsylvania Station or Grand Central Terminal. The failure caused confusion and long lines of unhappy commuters at the authority’s booths at those stations. Unable to reach the authority through its overwhelmed website or by phone, many of them resorted to buying MetroCards to get to work with the hopes of sorting out the problem later.
By midday, the authority advised the Mail & Ride customers to pay $112 each to buy new MetroCards that allow unlimited use of the transit systems for 30 days. Mr. Donovan said that most of them had not yet been charged for the inoperative ones because the program does not bill credit and debit cards until the third day of the month.
Customers who use those forms of payment will have $119 deducted from their December charges, Mr. Donovan said. He said that amount should cover the additional dollar the authority charges for eachMetroCard dispensed by its machines and the cost of using the transit systems on Monday.
The authority advised customers not to swipe the replacement MetroCards before Tuesday, so that they would last through Dec. 31. For the rest of the day on Monday, Mr. Donovan said, Mail & Ride customers would be waved into the subway or onto buses if they showed their passes, he said.
The authority was not aware of the problem until the cards failed to work on Monday morning. Mr. Donovan said the authority hired a contractor to “do the coding” of the cards but had not determined if the problem was caused by the contractor or by the authority’s instructions to the contractor.
“We’re a little unclear on where the error happened and why,” he said. But he said it had not occurred before and “it’s not expected to ever happen again.”
As for those skeptical New Yorkers who expressed doubt about receiving a timely refund for their additional outlays, just as the holiday shopping season dawned, Mr. Donovan offered reassurance. “We are saying they absolutely will be credited,” he said.
Last 2 cars on Hudson Line not used for anything?
Hey, I recently noticed that the last 2 cars on a Metro-North Train doors dont open or dosent carry any passengers. I asked the conductor why is this, he told me to not worry because those train cars are not used most of the time and are only used during emergencies. So Im confused.

XBL Saga, continued
Probably not that surprising that far more people travel through the Lincoln Tunnel by bus rather than car. So how long before we see restrictions on single-occupant vehicles during peak hours (6-10 AM and 4-7 PM)? Whereby those hours would be restricted to commercial vehicles only - buses, taxis, limos, and trucks.
I can definitely see that happening over the next 5-10 years. And before anybody calls me crazy, allow me to point out what the city of New York did with Times Square and Broadway. If ten years ago anybody had said the city would shut down half of Times Square to traffic and turn it into a pedestrian plaza in addition to long stretches of Broadway, they'd be called crazy. But that's exactly what happened.
The only issue I can think of is the logistics of enforcing such a policy - the XBL is easy because it is only one lane with restricted access guarded by a cop, with a "mercy exit" right there. All of 495 would be a bit more tricky but could probably be done with a few physical adjustments.
In addition, is there any real reason why the XBL cannot be activated during times of heavy inbound traffic on weekends? Not sure if it would make that much of an adverse effect on outbound traffic - certainly can't be any worse than weekday mornings outbound, especially around 7-9 AM.
BQE Interstate renumbering
The Brooklyn-Queens Expressway is currently known as Interstate 278 which also runs via Staten Island Expressway and no connection to Interstate 78.
Here's what I propose:
Bring Interstate 87 past the Major Deegan Expressway over the RFK Bridge and replace Interstate 278 as the BQE, and across the Verrazano Bridge to the Staten Island Expressway. Then put it off at the West Shore Expressway crossing the Outerbridge Crossing to the I-95 NJ Turnpike (exit 10)/I-287 junction.
Bruckner Expressway would go from I-278 to I-387
Segment from West Shore Expressway across the Goethals Bridge to Exit 13 (NJ Turnpike) would be I-187
Metro-North Riverdale Anniversary: Officials say Metro-North is safer
Officials say Metro-North is safer
One year after the derailment at Spuyten Duyvil Station that killed four and injured dozens of others, train officials, politicians and a commuter advocacy group say Metro-North riders can rest assured that a range of initiatives costing millions of dollars has made the line safer.
Two Riverdalians on the MTA board, U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer, Rep. Eliot Engel and the executive director of the Permanent Citizens Advisory Committee to the MTA (PCAC) lauded efforts including nearly $440 million for a next-generation train control system and widespread track improvements. But they emphasized that Metro-North has a long way to go before it can retake its spot as the best regarded rail line in the country.
“They are on their way to being safer — significantly on their way — is the bottom line,” said Chuck Moerdler, a Riverdalian who has been on MTA’s board since 2010. “We have voted for hundreds of millions of dollars [in safety improvements], but it’s going to take time. If it had not been for that accident, it would have been years.”
Action plan
After coming under severe criticism from politicians and regulatory agencies for the Dec. 1 crash at Spuyten Duyvil Station, the MTA in June launched a 100-day “action plan” to improve safety. It has also promised to follow wide-ranging recommendations from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Railroad Administration. The MTA’s safety measures include:
• A $34.6 million investment in inward- and outward-facing cameras for 2,064 cars and locomotives in the Metro-North and Long Island Railroad (LIRR) fleets. An October report from the NTSB found the probable cause of the Dec. 1 accident was that the driver took the train to 82 mph in a 30-mph zone near Spuyten Duyvil Station after falling asleep due to sleep apnea worsened by his work schedule.
A Nov. 17 MTA release said the inward-facing cameras are intended to deter behavior that could hinder train operation and provide a record in the event of future accidents. The outward-facing devices “will be used to record track and wayside activities.”

Slow T.Os ...No Offense But Seriously...
Before I start Let me say That I Have the utmost respect for train ops aka motorman/women As I actually want to be one myself God Willing One day....But bare with me on this one!
Ive noticed in the past few months ive gotten on quite a few trains and the t/o just seems to be rookies scared to move it along!...Ive been riding my lines for years...as a native NYker you know when somethin aint runnin right.... Not to mention I do my majority of riding during the rush hours with light weekend travel....Now i would assume that transit puts there "veterans and most expereinced" on for the rush hours for optimal service...and save the other times for the newbies...Example..
I took the 2 to 96 st from 42 around 630 This evening... Missed the 1 by seconds (typical unfornately but understandable due to huge loads) next train in in 9 MINUTES....that 9 minutes was honestly 12 minutes...And I Quikcly found out why....
We pulled outta 96 at 15-20 mph all the way to 103...and the same ALL THE WAY to 137 (With slower than usual pull off time after the doors are closed) ....Then at which point it was announced that it wud skip stop to 168 then on to 242 ...To my dismay and many others as I had to get off at 157....I Immeadiately knew it was becuase this "Rookie' Was movin to damn slow!!!! The next train was directly behind him as it is...which is what i ended up catchin at 137...What Gives or is it just my luck lol....
